ETRUSCAN OPERATIONS STANDARDRoofing Workability Methodology
This system translates current forecast guidance into an operational planning signal for roofing work. It is decision support—not a guarantee of safe conditions.
⚠ ALWAYS VERIFY CONDITIONSWeather forecasts can change quickly and localized conditions may differ from the forecast. Always check actual conditions at the jobsite, remain alert to changing skies and official weather alerts, and use appropriate crew judgment before starting or continuing roofing work.
When thunder, lightning, high winds, precipitation or other unsafe conditions develop, crews should follow applicable safety procedures regardless of the rating shown here.
Source priority
1 · National Weather Service alerts — safety overrideApplicable severe-weather warnings override the normal score and can make a work period RED regardless of other forecast inputs.
2 · NOAA National Blend of Models (NBM) — primary rain & thunder probabilityNBM is the primary probability source for precipitation/rain and thunderstorms because it blends multiple numerical models into calibrated probabilistic guidance. It receives increasing weight across the multi-day planning horizon.
3 · NOAA HRRR — near-term timing & intensityHigh-Resolution Rapid Refresh guidance is used heavily for the next several hours to identify developing precipitation, convective risk and wind changes at high spatial resolution.
4 · NWS hourly point forecast — official forecast cross-checkThe local NWS hourly forecast is retained as an official forecast check and supports temperature, precipitation and thunder wording.
Roofing workability colors
GREEN — WORK SAFELY: forecast conditions appear favorable for normal roofing activity.
YELLOW — CAUTION: work may be possible, but crews should monitor conditions and avoid starting large tear-offs when deterioration could compromise dry-in.
RED — STOP / DON'T START: significant precipitation/thunder risk, strong winds, an applicable warning, or other conditions make roofing inappropriate.
Initial operating thresholds
| Signal | Yellow | Red |
|---|
| Rain / precip. probability | ≥30% | ≥60% |
| Thunder probability | ≥15% | ≥40% |
| Wind gust | ≥25 mph | ≥35 mph |
| Temperature | <45°F | — |
| Rain risk soon afterward | ≥50% | — |
Future-risk / dry-in protection
A dry two-hour block may be downgraded when meaningful rain or thunderstorm risk is approaching shortly afterward. The purpose is to avoid giving a GREEN signal to begin a tear-off when the roof may not have adequate time to be safely dried-in.
Forecast horizon & refresh
Weather data refreshes every 30 minutes. The dashboard displays six operational days, including Saturday and skipping Sunday, with six equal two-hour color-coded work periods from 7 AM through 7 PM.
